January 2026 - You don't need to try harder

There is a lot of noise at this time of year about new year's resolutions and the "new you" attitude that we are all pushed towards trying to attain, and I just want to call out that it is just not helpful!

We are not feeling the way we are (whatever that may be) because we are not trying hard enough. We are feeling the way we are for a number of complex reasons and, whatever has happened, the only things that are likely to be true are that we need more compassion for ourselves, more understanding and more space. Not more punishment, criticism and shame.

The more we motivate ourselves with negativity, or beliefs and approaches that undermine ourselves, the more we start to believe that something is lacking, the more we distrust ourselves, and the bigger the gap becomes between who we really are and who we feel safe to be.

So, if you think about this in relation to clutter - a fear of something lacking, not trusting ourselves, and a gap to fill, are almost the exact reasons why most people have clutter and whatever you are struggling with, I expect you will have a sense of a flavour of these. So, you can see how counter productive it would be to focus on things which are going to increase these and subsequently keep increasing your clutter.

If this feels relatable, you may be interested in This IS the Space which is a two week experience which helps you get the space and clarity that you are craving (but just haven't found the time for yet)

Let me know what you think - does this resonate?
